​SOLVING DRAIN ODOURS

Drain odours coming from your bathtub, shower stalls & sinks, may be the result of accu mulated soap, shaving cream, toothpaste, and hair & skin that has collected in the drain assembly, overflow an trap.

 

You can remove these odours by:

 

First: cleaning the affected areas thoroughly with a toothbrush or scrub brush preferably taking apart the drain assembly.

 

Thoroughly rinse the area with a water & vinegar solution mix.

 

Second: Pour a half cup of baking soda into the drain or trap, follow it with a 1/2 cup of white vinegar, cover the drain with a clean wet rag allowing this mixture to foam. Leave it at least 4 to 6 hours.

 

Repeat every 8 weeks as a preventive measure or as needed.

 

GARBURATOR ODOUR.

A very common issue with our customers is the dreaded garburator smell (sort of like when you leave your grass clippings in the garage for two weeks). The most important thing to remember when using a garburator is to use plenty of water just before, during and for about 15 seconds after garburator use. This will ensure the food particles are thoroughly flushed away and will not begin decaying in the garb.

 

Also whenever possible grind up some lemon/lime rinds, this helps immensely.

 

FLOOR DRAIN ODOUR.

Your floor drain is a place for excess water to go due to a flood/burst pipe etc. It is also unfortunately the easiest way for sewage to enter your home during a sewer backup. Your floor drain should always be flushed with plenty of water and a small amount of bleach after a sewer backup to remove any feces that may be lingering. (your Crowfoot Plumbing tech will do this for you).

 

The most common cause of floor drain odours is that the water seal has been broken due to the evaporation of the water in the trap which allows sewer gas to enter. This is easy to remedy by a monthly pouring of a couple gallons of water into the floor drain.

 

There are also mechanical methods such as trap seal primers available.

 

​CONTROLLING ROOT GROWTH

I don't have a tree nearby but have roots in my sewer.

Tree roots spread large distances underground to obtain water and nourishment, some species root systems search as much as 8 times the height of the tree. They can enter the pipes through joints and cracks.
